What kind of rodent could this be? in MB, Canada?

My mom saw a rodent on the road today. It was a reddish color and about the same size as a guinea pig. We can't figure it out. It didn't appear to have a tail and it ran into a hole. We live in Manitoba, Canada. Please help me figure out what iit is! It is driving me crazy! btw i don't have a picture to show you what it looks like. Please help me!!!!
