We have rats. How do we get rid of the rats?

Ok, so here is the scenario... We have a chicken coop. And beside of this chicken coop is a really, really big field. Well, apparently rats lived in the field and they decided that our chicken coop was a much better home. So now there are DOZENS if not HUNDREDS of rats that swarm out at night and eat the chicken...stuff....We need the rats gone WITHOUT hurting the chickens. And with out leaving a bunch of carcasses laying all over the place for our dogs to eat...and get random diseases and die....Can anyone help us? It's really gross and I just do not do rats....I can deal with many rodents but NOT rats....

To teach a child responsibility you should let them be responsible for themselves. They should have to get up on time, remember to brush their teeth, hair, shower, get dressed, so on. I think the best way to teach a child to be responsibles to make them do everything for themselves at least what they can do. If they can take care of themselves then they can start off by having a small pet like a fish then move up. But just giving them a dog to teach them responsibility is a bad idea in my book.

I would like to put something in it that's easy to care for and that has a lifespan of 10 years or less. I don't want a spider or something that has to be fed small rodents. What do I do? My Drivers license in PA was wrongfully suspended?

in Huntingdon county, I only found out of the suspension because I was pulled over 2 months after the violation. I swerved to avoid a rodent (groundhog?) in the road. No one saw this happen and I ended up totaling my car. The state police wrote me 3 violations after I was transported to the hospital with a broken neck and concussion. Wreckless driving, careless driving and driving w/o a seat belt. I appealed the wreckless driving charge and won. The driving with a suspended license I thought would be overturned with the wreck less driving taken off but the judge said I didn't provide him with enough evidence. I gave him the court order (showing I was guilty of careless driving, and no seat belt) and showed my license was reinstated. Now I have to prove that Penn Dot did not send me a notice of suspension or I did not receive it. One lawyer said that will be tough. Do I spend the little money I have to fight it and possibly lose, or just call it a life? If I am unable to drive I can't work, can't pay child support, will be kicked out of the apartment. I am in a town of 3,000 people so there are no cabs and I work 90 minutes away. I don't think I qualify for a work only DL because I made some mistakes 8 years ago that were all my fault, I have had no violations since 2003, except the 2 issued from the accident. Seem like Pa goes after people who do thing the right way and people who don't get to live free with no punishment. I have heard of so many cases of deadbeat dads owing $10,000 and more in child support and they get no punishment, I was 2 months late with my support and was called by domestic relations because they were about to issue a bench warrant. Newly-acquired blood phobia?

About ten years ago, I took a phlebotomy course, and my professor had this advice to give. Go to a specialty store and buy cow/pigs blood (usually asian markets carry it, or some butchers). Then, put it in a bowl, and play with it. Dip your hands in it, paint with it, etc. It sounds crazy, but the idea is to desensitized yourself to it. I personally didn't have to do this, but some people in th course who did were completely cured of their aversion to blood.

Is a twenty minute walk really enough excersize for a dog?

Seriously! And what about the adult dogs that are done romping and bouncing around the yard for play, the older dogs that still enjoy wandering around and sniffing out the neighborhood- wouldn't they get excersize that is more suitable for a dog, as opposed to a human, if they were allowed to run free sometimes? Cats are allowed to run free, and being tiny they are hard for a driver to even see. I don't accept that we are protecting our pets from cars as a sound excuse. And most dogs don't bite, if they do the owner know it. Why can't dogs have real freedom like all other animals besides rodents in cages? As far as caged, kept and captive animals it seems that their very existance in the world is illegal unless they are captive, owned by a person. I don't think thats right. I dont think theyre meant to be held in constant captivity. Their bodies will now start to develop poor health and obesity because we try to turn them into one of us. I'm not allowed, by law, to let my dog go enjoy his freedom...even with a gps tracker! He is lethargic on a single thirty minute walk a day. I just can't take the heat outside. He should be allowed to venture out on his own, dogs Live for that kind of freedom.

What type of surgeon should i be?

i am doing a careeer project in school and all i know is that i need to be a surgeon. I love dissecting,medicine, biology SCIENCE! its ridiculous how much i love learning about medicine. FOr my birthday, i got textbook in orthopedics and cardiothorastics and i read them both! i love medicine and decided i can't go on without it being in my career. I need to know which type of surgeon would suit me best though. its definatly a good idea to get female rats, they are far nicer than male rats. You dont really need to worry about the cats, i have had lots of rats and have never bothered by the cat, in fact the cats have been harmed by the rats, I would get a heavy cage so the cats and dog cant tip it over. And as far as names go, thimbleton, fatatooie, but it all depends on the rat.

Because it's in her natural instincts. Cats in the wild would have to hunt birds and rodents as their prey so even domestics still have it in their instincts to kill. She would have brought it to you because your house is her territory and some people say it's a pride thing; she wanted to show you the good work she's been doing. You can't really prevent this if she has this killer instinct, all you could do is keep her indoors which would be cruel as she obviously enjoys the great outdoors so you will just have to make sure you clean it up or chase her out when she brings something in. I love rats. To me, rats are the dogs of the rodent world. They are friendly, they are sociable, they love interaction with their humans, they are very trainable, I honestly love rats. They get a bad wrap from people who can't get the fact that there IS a difference between domestic and wild rats, and domestic rats are awesome.

Choosing a career path is a hard choice, especially at such a young age. Im 20 years and i still think im too young to choose what im going to be doing for the rest of my life. It really does suck. But let me tell you something that my father has told me. If you do what you LOVE to do, you are most likely going to be the BEST at what you do, and if you are the BEST at what you do, the money will come. (since u mentioned you want to be financially stable). Im a pre-med student and honestly i cant see myself doing ANYTHING else. I tried the whole business major my freshman year and i hated it. But then i got the opportunity to shadow doctors, see a surgery, pretty much see what an actual doctor does from a day to day basis and its AWESOME. So, that made me want to pursue being a surgeon. You just have to find what your good at or what really interest you.

My cat got a hold of a small chipmunk, most likely a baby because the adult ones here usually can outrun/outsmart cats, especially ones so new to hunting such as mine. My dogs chased the cat under my neighbors house, but I managed to coax him out. Then he dropped it at my feet, and it kind of staggered around and looked dizzy, but it didn't run away, so I threw a pair of shorts over it and picked it up with them because I didn't want to be bitten. We have it in a small animal cage, with ripped up paper towels that it's using as a nest, some pita chips, and a little dish of water. When he was outside, it just looked like his back had a few scratches or puncture wounds, and it seemed a bit shaken up, and right now it's just hiding under the paper towels in it's cage. What are it's chances of survival? Is it possible it'll live? This has happened before, but it was always with my female cat, who is an experianced hunter, and usually beats them up a little more. This cat is male, and this was his first rodent(my dad saw him with a snake, but he might not have killed it, just found it). So my friend is a recovering drug addict it's pretty wierd because in the 7th grade he was this anti social quite kid always depressed he was one of the nicest guys you'll meet and never wanted to fight kids. Then he said he started messing with pills in 10th grade like anti depressants, ecstasy, and he seemed like he wasn't so depressed anymore actually happier. Then he had a gun pulled to his face and that's when everything went down hill he started doing pcp ketamine really big time dissociatives drugs. The first thing I noticed was he was emotionless then he wouldnt be able to understand simplest things and he could barely make a sentence and always struggled to find the right words to say. He also pick fights with almost anyone. He's supposedly already has recovered. He has a certificate saying he's gone through rehab and another one for drug therapy. He seems like he's smarter he speaks much faster tho. He knows how to make a sentence easy and he's smart again like he use to be and logically understands most things. But emotionally he doesn't. He tells me all the time he doesn't understand emotions. He's super nice and actually kinda makes him seem insane. He always happy with everything. He always Askes me how to do things right in a relationship his girlfriend loves him but it seems like he doesn't love her. He sometimes doesn't understand why his girlfriend tells him things like I love and I miss you he thinks she's crazy. But he obviously doesn't understand emotions and can't obviously use his own emotions. He thinks the only emotion he feels is happiness which is pretty crazy. I would say a hamster is probably the best bet. Dwarf hamsters like being handled less than others. You are right about ferrets I have them and they take time, need to form a bond need daily cleaning (they poop a lot) and plenty of time out of the cage. Hamsters stay in there cage mostly (or time in a ball on floor) and don't need a lot of holding (especially the dwarf hamsters). You just need to feed and give fresh water daily (no biggie) and their cages usually need cleaned only once a week. It takes my daughter about 20 minutes each week to take care of her hamsters cage.

Help! Job Help! NEED ADVICE!?

I'm in high school in grade 10 and I'm having trouble thinking of a job. I really love animals and to tell the truth I rather spend the whole day in a room with animals then a room with people. I don't want to be a vet because I would never be able to put an animal down or do any tests. My mom really wants me to go to collage or university so I thought maybe an animal biologist. I would work with animals and travel, but my only issue is that I want to have a family and have a stable life, also I refuse to dissect any animals. I rather fail the course, I already got out of frog dissection but I'm not sure that will work for university or grade 11 biology. I mean it's not like you'll be dissecting animals as a biologist, anyways so my question is should I go into animal biology and is it possible to get out of dissection even in university?

I want to be a doctor but I hate biology?

Well I might want to be a doctor as I feel like I will enjoy anatomy and was considering a surgeon or a pathologist. However I hate biology at the moment I have just finished high school and am continuing on to college. Due to the fact that GCSE biology was boring and just remembering facts after facts I haven't taken A-level biology. I now feel this is a bad move if I want to carry on trying to become a doctor but I don't think I could stomach another two years of memorization. I am more of a physics/maths person. The only lesson I have really enjoyed in biology is when we dissected a lambs heart which led me to look at an career on medicine. Does anybody know if I am suitable for medicine as i don't know if I will enjoy it? Also can you get into uni and med school with a levels in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry but not biology? Thanks!

I'm being forced to dissect a cat, or I fail. How is this fair?

I am in 12th grade Human Anatomy. My teacher is under the impression that we need to dissect a cat to learn more about the human body. She told us that the cats she got for our class were euthanized from a pound. I looked at the cats: their faces were twisted in horror. Their mouth's were wide open, tongue's erect, and their eyes reflected pure fear. These cats were electrocuted. When electrocuting animals, a clip is put on their lip and an anal probe is shoved inside of them. These two things emit a high electrical current that kills the cat. That's why they looked like they had suffered - because they did - they were not euthanized. Each cat cost $35. Our school purchased 22 cat cadavers; that's $770. The pound gets paid for killing these animals. That's why they are only held for four days. It's a money trap. These innocent animals were killed so that a few people can get rich off their dead bodies. And now what are we doing? We're dissecting them. The cats in the pound are people's pets. They were all strays. I'm being forced to dissect someones pet. If I don't do it then I can only get, at the max, a 45% in my Human Anatomy class. I am an all A student. This is morally against everything I stand for. I didn't know about this when I signed up for the class and I can't switch now because I am so close to graduation. I live in Michigan. By state law my teacher and the school is not required to provide an alternate assignment for me. If they decide that I fail because of my choice, then I fail. Please, just share with me your opinions.

Hi, I have extremely severe asthma, there fore I absolutely can NOT have a pet that lives inside besides fish and reptiles. I really want a rodent because I used to have a pet mouse and he was the cutest little guy ever. I know rabbits can live outside (I know that they are not rodents), but what other types of rodents can live outside. I live in Illinois and as you probably know it becomes quite warm in the summer and very cold in the winter. Honestly...I think the dialogue might be a bit too much. Keep it in the guys imagination...that way you can build up the suspense more. And when he says "The poor girl"...well it gets confused, as if he has some sympathy for her. The actual murder part is very good and detailed. I think you could bring the reader in more by writing a bit about what he is thinking...images in his head, memories, fury...

In the united states the average number is one. You take anatomy at the beginning of the four years and you dissect one cadaver. You have access to everyone's cadaver to study from, but you only dissect one. There are options to dissect more. I've dissected 3 myself, but most people only do it once.

Please help me! Rat tail skin fell off?

I was holding one of my female rats by her tail to give her a bath. She spun around, then about an inch of skin on her tail fell off and she dropped into the bath. Her tail looks like a white string, and it was bleeding every where. I put her in a separate cage (I have two five foot cages, six boys and eleven girls.Pet shop owner accidentally said two girls two boys, it was actually three boys and one girl...) And she kept crying her little rat cry, and trying to eat her tail off. It looked horribly painful, and every time she moved she screamed. I know lizard's tails fall off if they feel threatened, but is this normal with a rat? She has completely stopped eating and drinks a lot. I put band-aids and neosporene on the tip of her tail and i am observing her every day. (it has been 2 days). When i put her back in the cage she wouldn't even eat with her sisters. :( I am very worried about my rat. Right now she is sitting on my shoulder asleep, but everytime you go near her, she cries and licks you, like crazy. PLEASE HELP ME. I would bring her to a vet, but they do not deal with small rodents. :'( Should i cut off her tail completely? (Evil dad suggests this.) Should i keep her under more watch, or put her back in the cage with the other females? (they try to bite her tail too.)

I want to cry. Anytime I feel at the absolute lowest... I mean, incredibly suicidal... I well, I have a dream with this boy in it. Have been having them for over a year... In most of the dreams, we don't even do anything, except maybe hug or possibly kiss. Even just two days ago, I had this dream where we were just sitting side by side.
